Productivity can be measured in the amount of work done vs the time put in. Wouldn’t it be great if you could put less time into your tasks and end up getting more done?
Recognised globally, World Productivity Day is on Monday 20th June, it’s less of a celebration and more of a day to step back and focus on your tasks at hand. Have you got a “tomorrow job” that keeps getting pushed to the back of your to-do list, or you just can’t quite find time in the day to purge your inbox? Perhaps you have so many ongoing tasks that you’re feeling overwhelmed and need a plan of action to help you deal with it. World Productivity Day is a great excuse to get organised and address your workload.
Productivity in the Office vs Home
The pandemic caused an enormous disruption in office working. Many people were forced to work from home, and although this suited a lot of people, there are others who simply cannot be productive outside of their usual work environment.
As hard as it may be, you should try to create a separate workspace at home and tailor your schedule around your family duties. Inform them when you will be working and cannot be interrupted, have set times for checking your emails and ensure you take multiple breaks to prevent burnout. If working from home gives you the flexibility to dictate your start time, it could be a good idea to start working earlier and get as much done as possible during the morning.
Productivity Applications
Whether it be in the office or at home, there are a vast array of apps that can help give you the kick you need to be more productive. Our number one recommended app is a to-do list and one should come installed as standard on any smartphone. Additionally, there are many apps that will block distractions from your phone, and even break your day into chunks to let you know when you’ve earnt your break.
As well as apps to focus on time keeping, there are also plenty available to track your progress and deadlines. The end of your workday will be a lot more rewarding when you can see in black and white the progress you’ve made.
Get involved with World Productivity Day!
Take a step back and appreciate the work you’ve done so far! It’s fine to take a minute to pat yourself on the back and be proud of the goals you’ve achieved.
Update your planner and start updating your to do list. Set up a plan of what tasks you need to get done and create a realistic schedule – you don’t need to cram everything into one morning.
Use your mornings to focus on your key tasks. It is always very tempting to immediately check your emails when starting work, but when doing this you are allowing others to dictate your workload. It may be beneficial to do the work that you know is important first, and then allow yourself to focus on other tasks.
Let us know what you think! Are you most productive at the office or at home? What apps do you use to keep yourself organised? How’s your work-life balance? Let us know in the comments.
